1898 Necedah Light Guard
From the Necedah Republican, June 13, 1898
Transcribed by Joan Benner

During the past week a volunteer military company has been organized to respond to president McKinley's second call for troops if an opportunity is afforded. The present membership of the company is sixty-eight. The company has secured the services of Dr. W. A. Reed as drillmaster, and on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings the company meets at the rink for a drill. The boys have entered the work of drilling with interest and enthusiasm and, it has been remarked, that they learn quickly, and under such favorable conditions the work is progressing.

The civil organization has been perfected by the selection of Irving Child, president; John A. Niles, vice president; N. D. Parham, secretary; H. E. S. Potter, treasurer.
