Rev. S. B. Lewis, Weyauwega, Named Pastor: Lot Purchased, Part of Old School Building Secured for Meetings

A new Methodist Episcopal congregation is being organized at Junction City and it is expected that a substantial church building will be erected there, possibly the next summer. The new congregation has already purchased a part of the old public school building in the village, which was recently vacated, a section 16 x 20 feet in size, and will refit it to serve as a meeting place. Later this structure will be added to the proposed new building. The price paid for this school building was $100.

Williams Names Trustees

T. D. Williams, district superintendent of the Methodist church, was at Junction City recently and took steps to begin the organization. He appointed Henry Rux and George Grover of Junction City, S. B. Lewis of Weyauwega, the Rev. G. M. Calhoun and the Rev. W. E. Marsh of this city and the Rev. T. D. Williams of Appleton as trustees of the new church. These trustees have just purchased a lot at Junction City about forty rods east of the new public school building of Sarah R. Case for $125. The newly purchased building will soon be removed to the site and fitted up for use until expanded into the larger structure. At present services are held in the Grover school house two and a quarter miles west of the village.

Parish Founded Last Spring

The Junction City congregation had its beginning last spring or early in the summer. Other residents interested besides those mentioned are Elmer Grover, Mr. Madglund, Mr. Noble and Mr. Larson. About a dozen families are included with a score of adults in all thus far.

Junction City has had no Protestant church and a number of the people in the village and vicinity have been wishing for a meeting place and services of their own. The Rev. W. E. Marsh and his son, Herbert Marsh, of this city have been actively interested in the new work since its inception and hitherto have been conducting the morning services held there. Their efforts and the work of the parishioners has borne fruit and by spring the new charge will be thoroughly organized with the usual auxiliary societies.

Sunday School Formed

Early last September a Sunday school was organized and now has about thirty members. One of the young men of the village is the superintendent. The Sunday school meets at 10 o'clock Sunday mornings and the regular preaching services are at 11.

New Pastor Named

A regular pastor for the growing parish has been secured in the person of Rev. S. B. Lewis of Weyauwega, a local preacher who has charge of the Methodist church at Milladore. He will conduct the Junction City church as a sub charge of Milladore for the present. The Rev. Mr. Lewis is already in charge of the new work.

Start Remodeling Soon

The refitting of the building just started will be started at once and the structure occupied as soon as possible. Both building and lot are paid for and the new parish is making a good financial start as well as a favorable beginning in other lines. The new church is expected to be a frame structure but details of size and cost have not yet been worked out.
