Sabbath School Meeting

The Sabbath School Meeting at the Methodist Church Wednesday evening last, was largely attended by both old and young, and passed off pleasantly to all.

About two weeks since, the classes in the school were numbered and named. At the same time it was decided to raise money for a Library. A prize banner was offered to the class that raised the largest amount of money. This was an incentive, and the way the little fellows perambulated the streets, going from store to store and from man to man was a caution to us fellows who lacked greenbacks. This meeting was called to afford an opportunity for reporting the amounts gathered. The following are the names of the classes, and the amounts collected:

Pioneers--$10.25

Life Guards--$12.00

Busy Bees--$9.55

Morning Star--$2

Shining Lights--$3.35

Tri-Company--$34.00

Little Pilgrims--$4.45

Lilly of the Valley--$28.00

Rose of Sharon--$19.40

This, with a collection taken up that evening, made a sum of $132.00. This will go far toward securing a Library.

The following are the names of those who collected the largest amounts: Albert POPHAM, Clara WASON, Eliza MERRILL, Cry AUSTIN, Frank CHANDLER, Rena SPAULDING, Julia SPAULDING, M. A. DARLING, and Susie MITCHELL. Julia SPAULDING, a little girl of nine summers, collected $21, being the largest amount secured by one person.

Several brief speeches were made on the occasion. Judge PRICE made a very pretty temperance speech. He was cheered lustily. The Judge always talks with force, and never fails to say a good thing.

We must not close this without saying that the music furnished by Mrs. ELLIOTT and Miss HAWLEY was fine, and added much to the entertainment.
